East Valley Water District Raises the Highest Beam on the Sterling Natural Resource Center

East Valley Water District placed the highest beam on the Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC). The SNRC being built to treat wastewater will provide a new source of water for the region's groundwater basin and support the area's continued economic development.

"The District reached a significant milestone with the tallest element of the project now set in place", said Chairman David Smith. "The beam is a symbol of the thousands of pages of architecture drawings, hundreds of truck deliveries and many months of hard work and partnership needed to get us to this moment."

East Valley Water District is working with Balfour Beatty who has assembled a team of over 51 subcontractors, affectionately named Team Sterling. Currently scheduled to be fully operational in Spring 2022, Team Sterling has finished the structural framework of the administrative center, water screening facility and digester tanks.

"The progress made on the SNRC would not have been made possible without the support and hard work of Team Sterling and the partnership of the leaders within the industry", said John Mura, General Manager/CEO. "What started as an idea and an empty lot, is now one beam closer to the District providing an essential service for our customers and region.

The entire wastewater treatment process is comprised of multiple systems and functions used to filter debris, remove particles, and disinfect the water before recharging the region's groundwater aquifer. Capable of treating up to 8 million gallons of wastewater per day for groundwater replenishment, the SNRC has been designed to enhance the neighborhood with spaces to invite the community to learn and grow. The finished site will include a demonstration garden, picnic area and locations for workshops and special events.
