East Valley Water District (EVWD) completed the final advanced meter installation today to fully upgrade these devices across the District. Having installed over 20,000 meters, this infrastructure upgrade allows for all customers the ability to electronically read water usage data, provide community members with information in near 'real time' and alert customers when a potential leak is detected.
"East Valley Water District stives to develop solutions using the latest technology," said Board Chairman David Smith. "The District seeks to continue to enhance the customer experience and maintain a strong stewardship of the District's infrastructure; the advanced meters will do just that."
The advanced meters, commonly known as AMI or smart meters, will provide customers with near 'real-time' usage information and enable the system to send notifications regarding water use. The new meters will also help lower greenhouse gas emissions generated by the District, as meter readers will no longer need to drive throughout the community to collect usage information monthly. All customers received an upgraded meter at no cost and East Valley Water District is proud to have received a grant from the Department of Natural Resources to help fund Phase One of the upgrade which began in 2015.
"East Valley Water District takes pride in being a solutions-oriented organization; always looking for new opportunities to improve customer service," said John Mura, General Manager/CEO. "The District has worked with funding partners, contractors and staff to complete this multi-year effort. Each AMI meter will help customers monitor their home for leak, reduce our greenhouse emissions, and provide a long-term investment in our District's future infrastructure."
